The Namibia Youth Energy Forum (NYEF) is proud to announce the historic launch of its Lüderitz branch, held on 19th October 2024 at the Lüderitz Waterfront Old Power Station. This landmark event was made possible through the generous support of our energizing partner, TotalEnergies EP Namibia, and
our esteemed sponsors: FNB Namibia, KAESO Energy Services, DPQ (Dutch Project Quality), and Antila Namibia.
The launch ceremony was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including His Worship Phillipus Balhao, the Mayor of Lüderitz, who delivered the welcoming remarks. The keynote address was given by //Kharas Regional Councilor, Hon. Suzan Ndjaleka of the !Ami #Nus Constituency, who wholeheartedly endorsed the operations of the Namibia Youth Energy Forum in Lüderitz. In the days leading up to the launch, NYEF organized insightful site visits to the TotalEnergies EP Namibia Base and KAESO Energy Services Base in Lüderitz.
These visits provided participants with a comprehensive overview of the oil and gas operations in Namibia. Mr. Laurent Roche, Managing Director of TotalEnergies EP Namibia, delivered an enlightening presentation on the lifecycle of oil and gas operations, highlighting the significant contributions of TotalEnergies EP Namibia to the industry.
The launch event featured engaging panel discussions with young professionals who have worked offshore in oil and gas activities. Mr. Jorge de Morais, General Manager ofKAESO Energy Services, inspired the youth to explore opportunities within the industry and presented on maximizing local content in Namibia’s oil and gas sector. Dr. Eline van der Linden, Head of Impact & ESG at Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme, shared her vision on the transformative potential of green hydrogen development, positioning Lüderitz as a future energy hub in Namibia. Additionally, Mr. Naftal Akweenda, Relationship Manager at FNB Namibia, presented valuable insights on financing opportunities for youth in the energy sector (SMEs).
The event was a resounding success, attended by over 200 participants, including youth from Lüderitz and nearby towns, local business community members, and school-going children. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm and hope as Mr. Fanuel Shinedima, Founder and Board Chairperson of NYEF, officially launched the branch.
In his inspiring speech, he stated: “Today, as we stand united in Lüderitz, we celebrate not just the launch of our branch, but the collective dream of empowering our fellow youth to illuminate the path toward a
sustainable future. This achievement is a testament to the unwavering spirit and potential of our young leaders, proving that together, we can harness the power of energy to ignite change and inspire hope in our communities. Looking back at when I started this organization alone, I never knew I would be here in Lüderitz for the first time with 200 people in front of me. What that has taught me is to be committed in life, to be selfless, resilient, and to have the courage to dream big, to be the voice of the voiceless, and to
commit to a cause in life. Thank you to all our partners who made this possible. We have
indeed made history in Lüderitz.”
