Namibia Oil and Gas Staff
Windhoek ,22 November 2024- Namibia Oil & Gas is excited to announce the launch of its Online Directory. A platform designed to link local suppliers, service providers, and skilled professionals within Namibia’s fast-developing oil, gas, and green hydrogen sectors. It also serves as a news and information source on oil and gas.
The Online Directory empowers Namibians by actively promoting local content ownership and ensuring that the country’s workforce and suppliers remain essential participants as the sector expands. It bridges the gap between local SMEs and international companies, encouraging collaborations that prioritize local expertise, data, and resources. With listings for training and accreditation providers, the platform also equips Namibians with pathways to relevant industry qualifications, positioning them to thrive in the evolving sector.
To celebrate this important development, Namibia Oil & Gas hosted a mixer on 21 November 2024 (Thursday) and invited key stakeholders from the oil and gas and green hydrogen sector. The mixer was set to showcase the directory’s critical role in championing local content and fostering partnerships with Namibian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as well international entities.
Last year at an Oil and Gas Conference, the Ministry of Mines and Energy’s Petroleum Commissioner, Maggy Shino, announced that the country can meet about 45% of the oil and gas industry’s service needs. To further increase this capacity, a supplier database and developing local content policies to boost local capabilities are foreseen as ways to harness and exploit this potential. The online directory of Namibia Oil and Gas is developed to serve this need. The local and international organizations can use and leverage it to engage in Namibia.
In the words of Cobus Theyse, one of the platform’s founders, said, “At Namibia Oil and Gas, our drive is to assist Namibians and avoid the resource curse that befell other nations. We want to guarantee that the Land of the Brave benefits from its resources and their development. This means creating an online directory to develop local skills and knowledge. Leveraging our expertise for local benefit rather than having an international company create, develop, and run an online directory.”
The online directory is the first of its kind in Namibia. It will develop and grow with Namibia’s energy sector growth and serve the whole industry, both nationally and internationally.
