Shipping company CMB.Tech will become the sole shareholder of a green hydrogen project in Namibia after acquiring the 51% stake held by local co-founder Ohlthaver & List Group for an undisclosed sum, Cleanergy Solutions Namibia said Monday.

The Namibian firm’s pilot project produces green hydrogen for trucks from a 5 WM solar-powered electrolyzer at a site outside of the port of Walvis Bay in the African country.

CMB.Tech said it next plans to scale into rail and maritime, as a hydrogen-powered locomotive will operate on Walvis Bay’s rail network, and a dual-fuel hydrogen harbor vessel being built in the Netherlands is set for deployment next year.

The company also continued its fleet renewal with new deals, confirming a sale of the 306,543 dwt VLCC Dalma for a reported $48 million after passing dry dock, which is expected to generate a capital gain of $26.7 million; the sale follows the disposal of three VLCCs in April.

The company said it sold the 169,390 dwt capesize Battersea for $24.8 million, earning $2.4m in capital gains, and according to Splash247.com, shipbrokers said sister ship Belgravia also was sold, reportedly to Swiss trading house Mercuria, at a similar price.

On the renewal side, the company said it has taken delivery of five newbuildings so far during Q3 and Q4.
