The Office of the Presidency reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Namibia Youth Energy Forum (NYEF) and the Namibia Energy Connect & Energy Trailblazer Awards 2025 during the keynote address delivered by Hon. Kornelia Shilunga, Head of the Upstream Petroleum Unit.
The speech emphasized that Namibian youth are active architects of the country’s energy transformation. Reiterating that young professionals must take their rightful place in exploration, production, renewable innovation, and policy design to ensure that the energy sector drives inclusive, sustainable, and equitable growth.
The Office of the Presidency confirmed its commitment to youth empowerment by consolidating youth-focused funds into a single, ring-fenced Youth Fund, removing barriers to education and training. Starting next year, tuition and registration fees will no longer hinder access to opportunities for young Namibians.
The keynote also outlined the government’s strategic priorities in oil, gas, and renewable energy. By accelerating partnerships, streamlining regulatory processes, and investing in critical infrastructure, Namibia positions itself to unlock the full potential of its hydrocarbon resources. Young innovators, researchers, and entrepreneurs must actively participate and benefit from every phase of energy development.
Inclusive participation remains central to Namibia’s energy vision. The Office of the Presidency stressed the need to dismantle social and institutional barriers that prevent women and youth from advancing in science, technology, and leadership roles, ensuring they become co-drivers of industrial transformation.
There was a call to action for industry leaders, investors, and development partners to strengthen support for youth through mentorship, funding, and tangible opportunities. The government encourages the establishment of innovation incubators, energy start-up funds, and research collaborations to create a regional hub for youth-driven energy innovation across upstream technology, green hydrogen, solar systems, and carbon management solutions.
The Office of the Presidency expressed confidence that Namibia Energy Connect will evolve into a national movement of ideas, mentorship, and innovation, bridging generations, industries, and regions. “Together, let us power a future that is innovative, sustainable, and proudly Namibian,” the statement concluded.
