The Office of the Governor of the ||Kharas Region will host the ||Kharas Governor’s Symposium on Environmental, Social and Governance under the theme From Offshore Potential to National Prosperity from 2-3 December 2025 at the Lüderitz Old Power Station in Lüderitz.
The symposium brings together traditional authorities, local authorities, national leaders, industry and researchers to design a coordinated ESG approach for the region. The platform supports the Governor’s goal of driving community centred development that aligns with national policies and strengthens long term regional planning.
Attendance is open to all stakeholders involved in, or interested in, the region’s development. This includes regional and national policymakers, traditional and community leaders, private sector executives, civil society organisations, SMEs, youth groups, academic institutions and operators in mining, oil and gas and green hydrogen, as well as representatives from tourism, hospitality, conservation and any parties with an interest in the region’s socio economic growth.
The symposium focuses on: • Aligning ESG priorities with the Local Content Policy and NDP6. • Gathering community driven recommendations from traditional and local authorities. • Launching the //Kharas Energy Council. • Presenting a research informed ESG Implementation Roadmap for the region. • Improving coordination between government, industry and communities.
The discussions will centre on the region’s industrial landscape, including mining, oil and gas and green hydrogen. These sectors present major opportunities for employment, skills development and poverty eradication. The symposium will examine revenue models, equity participation, SME supply chain access and targeted training for youth.
