PETROFUND, in collaboration with the ǃNamiǂNûs constituency and Chevron, handed over partially funded Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) scholarships to 13 scholars at the Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology (NIMT), Keetmanshoop Campus valued at over 1 million Namibian dollars over the next 3 years.
Nillian Mulemi, CEO of PETROFUND, stated that this marks a historical milestone for PETROFUND as they award TVET scholarships for the first time since the fund’s establishment in 1993 in Namibia and that they recognise the critical importance of the technical skills and qualifications in the emerging oil and gas industry.
Mulemi further expressed the importance of this collaboration with the ǃNamiǂNûs constituency and Chevron as this would ensure that young people, especially from Namibia, gain the necessary skills and experience to participate meaningfully in the petroleum sector. “It is imperative that we accelerate our efforts to build the technical capacity of as many Namibians as possible, especially through TVET programmes in preparation for the much-anticipated Final Investment Decision (FID) by operators in the sector”, she stated.
Furthermore, Mulemi encourages scholarship beneficiaries as well as trainees that attend the ceremony to seize this opportunity and fully dedicate themselves towards their training and studies.
PETROFUND, is proud to share that this initiative fully aligns with their vision in the development of local skills in support of the Namibian oil and gas industry. “This achievement cements PETROFUND’s dedication to empowering Namibia’s youth with essential technical skills, laying a solid foundation for further specialised training in oil and gas and beyond” Mulemi concluded.
